A Work of Art
What can you say? I recieved mine as a xmas present, and fell way behind in the present opening line, as i sat and just looked at my present. If you are reading this, you are probably well aware of the superb memory, the fantastic sound quality, the huge 20 minute buffer for non-skip music. The price tag is expensive, but the Ipod is such a beautiful creation that all thoughts of money disappear. Amazon states that Musicmatch comes with this Ipod, but i recieved iTunes on the CD with mine. It doubles as a music player, but its sole purpose is to load the (amazingly vast) amounts of music onto the Ipod. A word of warning, if you are looking to purchase one, for you, or for someone else, and own a PC, you need a Firewire card or the separate USB 2.0 cable to transfer music. (It will also transfer through USB 1.1, but you still require the USB cable) You could not imagine the frustration when realising these facts on xmas day with 6 days until the next posting day! Amazon stock the £17 (!!!!) Apple USB cable, and a range of Firewire cards, ranging from £19.99. I chose the firewire option, as it is supposedly slightly quicker, and Microsoft have backed the Firewire system over USB 2.0, so new computer peripherals will more than likely use the Firewire system. You must have one of these! If you are even a tiny bit interested, then you must buy it! They are fantastic! If you cannot afford this 20GB version, buy the cheaper 10GB one!! You need one in your life!

Im never apart from it!
The iPod is by far the best "MP3" to own. Best Christmas present my wife has ever given me. Its super cool styling and easy operation is complimented by the excellent iTunes software, now available to us non-Mac Windows types. As a music fan who travels a lot I was forever trying to chose the CDs for the car or the next trip, but now Ive got 1400 songs loaded on my 20Gb iPod that I take everywhere with me, and its less than a third full. Ive also loaded on two sets of French course CDs that I had purchased over a year ago, but never even put on my CD player. Im on lesson 74 already.

The AAC (definitely better than MP3) sound is nowhere near as compressed as I had expected, and not far off CD. I plug the iPod in to my high end HiFi, which has a Meridian pre-amp, Roksan power amp and Monitor Audio speakers, in place of my Meridian CD player, and it sounds remarkably good. I now use the iPod on-the-go playlists when friends are around, rather than having to jump up and down loading on CDs (saying "you must listen to this") as I used to do.

Ive even turned in to one of those sad individuals who wanders round the supermarket or on the tube "plugged in", but I listen to even more music than I used to, and that must be good.

But one last tip... dont even open up those Apple ear bud headphones and buy something like Sony MDR-EX71SLB headphones when you get yours. Order that iPod immediately.

3-month re-review
Right, I had previously given iPod 5 stars, these are my revised comments: the limited day-to-day battery life is, in practice, unacceptable. The remote control is not very useful. The bundled earphones and case are a waste of plastic. The whole thing scratches far too easily, there is no point making the iPod so shiny and pleasing to the eye if it is a Herculean task to keep it that way. It is way overpriced and under-specced compared to the competition.
Please dont be sucked in by the hype. A lot of people will say iPod is the best MP3 player in the world end of argument. It is very good at what it does, but other brands models do the same so much better and often for less money. What iPod is good for is simplicity, ease of use and looking pretty.
